Science Blast at St. Michael's NS
At St. Michael's National School, we are proud to take part in ESB Science Blast at the University of Limerick-an exciting celebration of curiosity, creativity, and scientific thinking. With the generous support of The Ireland Funds and South West Mayo Development, our pupils have the opportunity to explore big questions through hands-on investigation, teamwork, and presentation.
Science Blast is more than a science event-it's a platform for our pupils to become confident researchers, critical thinkers, and enthusiastic communicators. Through inquiry-based learning, our pupils develop essential skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and resilience.
Past projects from St. Michael's NS have included:
- "To the Waters and the Wild" - What do flora and fauna tell us about our rivers?
- "What Makes a Healthy Heart?" - Exploring heart health through science and lifestyle
- "What Material Makes the Best Parachute?" - Testing materials and forces in action
This year, our young scientists are taking on new challenges with projects on Aviation and "Junk Couture"-investigating what plastic makes the best clothes?
Participation in Science Blast brings our whole school community together and strengthens our commitment to fostering a love of learning, discovery, and sustainability. It reflects our belief that science is for everyone-and that big ideas can start with small hands and curious minds.
