Internet Safety at St. Michael's NS

At St. Michael's National School, we are committed to promoting a safe and responsible approach to internet use for all members of our school community. The internet is a valuable learning tool, and we aim to equip our pupils with the knowledge and skills to use it safely, respectfully, and responsibly.

We recognise that while the internet offers many opportunities for learning and creativity, it also presents risks such as cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content, and contact with strangers. To address these risks and protect our pupils, we have put clear rules and guidelines in place, supported by our Safe Internet User Policy (SIUP).

Our internet safety approach includes:

  • Supervised access to the internet during school hours.
  • Education on digital citizenship, teaching children how to stay safe online, respect others, and think critically about the content they encounter.
  • Strict filtering and monitoring systems on all school devices.
  • No use of personal devices or social media by pupils during the school day.
  • Encouraging open communication between children, parents, and teachers about online experiences.

We also work closely with parents, offering guidance on managing internet use at home and encouraging continued conversations about online safety.

At St. Michael's NS, we believe that by working together, we can ensure that all pupils are safe, informed, and confident digital citizens. Our Safe Internet User Policy is available from the school office and on our website for parents to read and discuss with their children.
