Green Schools Daily Swaps week!

20th Mar 2026
Last week, March 9th - 13th, was National Daily Swaps week as organised by Green Schools Ireland Water team.

The Green Schools committee met, and decided on 5 daily swaps that would be implemented by the staff and students, to raise awareness of environmental protection and the importance of looking after our world.
  • Day 1 saw us turning into light detectives - turning off lights in unused rooms and at break times to save electricity!
  • Day 2 and we turned off all taps while washing our hands and tried to identify any drips or leaks around the school.
  • Day 3 was Waste Free Wednesday - everyone (including staff) tried to bring in a lunch free from any additional wrappings or packaging.
  • Day 4 and it was Refill Water Bottle day - we have water fountains in each room and today's task was to try and bring reusable water bottles rather than single use containers.
  • Day 5 , the final day was Power Down Friday - any and all electronics were turned off when not in use.
From the start of the week, our 38 pupils managed to implement 43 different swaps!
We are so proud of our Green School Committee and all the students who are trying to make the world cleaner and maintain it for future generations.
